Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded as Institute of Forestry and Soil Sciences, IAE on 15 October, 1954. The current name was set in 1987. The institute was approved as a test unit for National Knowledge Innovation in 2001 and approved as a test unit for Feature Institute of IAE. The Institute has 5 research centers, 1 National Engineering Laboratory, 1 key Lab of IAE, 5 Provincial key laboratory and 8 field ecological research stations, a Northeast China Bio-specimen Room and a Shenyang Arboretum.
